This year, 62,000 students will leave school. Many of these students will be entering a competitive job-market, needing to narrow down their career choices, and prepare themselves for the workforce.
This is where Workchoice Day comes in. Every year, the Workchoice Trust coordinates 150 schools and 300 companies to help 4,000 students make informed career decisions. Workchoice is the only nationwide programme that enables students to gain a snapshot of what working New Zealander's do in the actual work place and directly addresses the New Zealand Education Goals "to develop the understanding and skills needed by New Zealanders to complete successfully in the modern, ever-changing world." COMPANIES A recent survey carried out by The Workchoice Trust asking respondents "what career advice would you give your 18-year-old self" revealed that more than half of New Zealand professionals would turn back the clock and change their career paths if they could. 79% said they had poor access to careers advice at high school and a further 82% said they didn't have a clear understanding of their chosen career path at the time of leaving school or graduating.
